Applications are invited for a full-time, permanent Legal Research Librarian at the Squire Law Library.

The Squire is one of the major academic law libraries in the UK with a world-wide reputation. It is affiliated to the University Library, is based on the University's Sidgwick Site and supports the research and teaching objectives of the University's Faculty of Law. The successful candidate will join the Squire Law Librarian, the Foreign and International Law Librarian and a small library team to provide a high quality library service to legal scholars at the University of Cambridge.

The successful applicant's primary responsibility will be to oversee the reference services of the Squire Law Library and will have the necessary specialist skills associated with legal research to provide an appropriate service to support researchers and law students. The post-holder will oversee the operation of the Library's enquiry desk and handle reference enquiries from readers. The role also has a strong emphasis on developing and delivering research support initiatives and providing training to users of the library. The successful candidate will assist senior teaching members of the Faculty of Law, visiting researchers, postgraduate researchers and undergraduate students. The role will also involve an oversight of the English law and legal history collections ensuring the materials available in print and online remain relevant and aligned with the research interests and the needs of the taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes led by the Faculty.

The successful candidate will also have a role ensuring effective coordination of the library's copyright support, including a wider coordination across the University Library and affiliated library teams. This will specifically include coordination of the library's copyright information, advice and guidance. Working with the Squire Law Librarian and another library colleague, the post-holder will also hold functional responsibility in relation to copyright support for teaching and learning, specifically relating to the rules and permissions of the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) in connection with provision of material on the University's virtual learning environment, Moodle.

The Library is looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and highly motivated individual, with a flexible approach. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, be able to work with accuracy and should hold a good honours degree or equivalent in a law, humanities or a social science subject and a postgraduate or professional qualification in library and information science or equivalent. Experience of working in a law library, legal information service and/or with legal resources and materials is essential. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate proven experience of working in an information service within an academic environment or similar sector.

The position is full time (37 hours per week) with some Saturday working (on a rota basis). The appointment has a 9 month probationary period.
