Professor Harold Hongju KohThe Squire Law Library and the Faculty of Law are pleased to announce an entry into the Eminent Scholars Archive for Professor Harold Hongju Koh.

Professor Harold Hongju Koh was the Arthur Goodhart Visiting Professor of Legal Science for the academic years 2018-19. He was interviewed in his rooms in Christ’s College on 28th May 2019.

Professor Koh has been the Sterling Professor of International Law, Yale Law School since 2013, where he teaches and researches in Procedure, Public and Private International Law, Human Rights, Law and U.S. Foreign Policy, Law and National Security, Brexit and the Law, International Business Transactions, Constitution and Foreign Affairs, International Trade, International Organizations, Law of Climate Change, International Law and Political Science.

The interview gives a fascinating account of how Professor Koh’s parents went to the USA from Korea, and the immense contributions to scholarship he and his family have made at Harvard and Yale. Before his present academic position at Yale, Harold was, inter alia, Dean and the Gerard C. and Bernice Latrobe Smith Professor of International Law at Yale Law School (2004-2009). During 2009-13 he served as Legal Adviser to the U.S. Department of State during the administration of President Barack Obama. He talks extensively of his experiences in these important posts.
